"The free-hearted engineer, Neuras... Within him dwells the virtue of the Gunner. Nurture thy bond with him, and a new power yet slumbering within thee may awaken..."
"In times of yore, there lived heroic marksmen who found glory and inspiration in firearms. Their souls together form the power of the Gunner. Among them, the Adept who pierces many foes with one bolt I dub the Sniper, and the Elite gunplay ace I dub the Dragoon. The Gunner Archetype is the master of attacking from the back row, possessing the unique ability to destroy enemies from afar. But power that requires specific circumstances or tactics to excel is less flexible in the end; the back row is its own limitation. Let no Gunner forget this truth."

"The Origin Gunner Archetype. Despite attacking from the back row, the Gunner can inflict both long-range Pierce attacks and status ailments upon enemies at no penalty. Conversely, its Endurance growth and defence are poor."

The Gunner is the third of the Request-locked Archetypes to appear in the game, awakening within the Follower bond the protagonist forged with Neueirus "Neuras" Corax after completing his Search request "Providing a Spark," which is available upon reaching Martira, Old Castle Town for the first time. Progression with the Gunner lineage is maintained with the protagonist's bond with Neuras, with said bond also allowing his party to access the Archetype for themselves as well.
Strategically, the Gunner is the archetypical long ranged unit: it is locked out of its native skill set if it is put in the front row and as such can only function if its user is put in the backrow. There is a benefit to being exiled to the backrow, as the Archetype is weak to Slash attacks, in addition to the Gunner not having the greatest Endurance amongst the physical classes.
In terms of Synthesis Skills, the Faker proves the most synergy with the Gunner, allowing the Gunner access to some of its more devastating attacks, most especially Mania Bullet, as it provides ample opportunity for the party to gain serious damage mileage due to providing three weaknesses.
Once a party member reaches mastery with this Archetype, the Gunner grants a permanent bonus to their Agility by 2.
