The titular Giant Sandworm of the Giant Sandworm's Nest and Giant Sandworm's Belly, residing in the sand dunes near Martira. Despite this, it is not a Sandworm in any strict sense of word, but rather a human, a monster evolved from human beings who are exposed to extreme doses of melancholia. Its innards are expansive and acts as a one-time dungeon, with humans and other monsters, including actual sandworms, residing inside it.
While on the hunt for Heismay to secure his head for the Tournament for the Throne, the protagonist and his party heeded the advice from the town guardsman Matteuccia Morris to apprehend Heismay at the Sandworm's Den during a sandflash, as it would (supposedly) cause the sandworm and other monsters to go to sleep. In truth, the inclement weather caused the monsters to go berserk, and the "sandworm" is actually a human known as the Greatworm Homo Butera. The party attempted to fight off the human sandworm, but was swallowed whole into its belly. Advised by a mysterious elderly entomophile living inside the human's belly, the party traversed through the monster's innards and successfully escaped through its rear orifice.
The human can be rematched during Bardon's Rank 7 bond event. Shortly after Bardon was exiled by his opposition Gastreaux and the Martira townspeople, the human sandworm reappeared and threatened to attack the town. Despite his predicament, Bardon decided to stay behind and enlisted the help of the protagonist and his party to fight against it with Bardon supporting the party by giving them an Auto-Tarukaja, Auto-Rakukaja or Auto-Sukukaja. Despite the human injured Bardon with a last-ditch swipe of its tail, the party manages to slay it for real. Bardon also makes a quick recovery from the injuries he sustained from that battle.
