The Great Seal (大いなる封印, Ooinaru Fuuin)? is a place that exists inside the Sea of Souls that the male protagonist / female protagonist created to separate Nyx and Erebus from reuniting.

Effect[]
The Great Seal is a special event-only skill in Persona 3. It is used by both the male protagonist and female protagonist after they gain the Universe Arcana during their confrontation against Nyx.

The male protagonist / female protagonist reaches their full potential and performs the Great Seal to miraculously seal Nyx, preventing the Fall from ever happening.
After defeating Nyx, the protagonist retains all their memories to meet their friends on Graduation Day on the rooftop. They eventually "fall asleep" on March 5th.
The Answer[]
While venturing into the Abyss of Time, the SEES members find out that the protagonist sacrificed his life to become the Great Seal to seal Nyx. He was, however, capable of retaining his consciousness long enough to fulfill his oath between the members of SEES to meet again on Graduation Day. Learning that Nyx is not malevolent, SEES realizes the true purpose of the seal: for the protagonist to act as a barrier between Nyx and Erebus to prevent Erebus from reaching Nyx to bring about The Fall.
Persona 4 / Golden[]
After successfully defeating Margaret, the great seal along with the protagonist are briefly mentioned. Margaret states that her sister Elizabeth left her position as Igor's assistant to find a way to free "The Blue-Haired" boy from the seal.
Persona 4 Arena[]
On Elizabeth's Story, she continues her journey to destroy Erebus for good so she can free the protagonist from the great seal. Elizabeth encounters Erebus at the deepest part of the sea of souls, a domain that existed before life took form and became sentient, where there is only "the darkness of death and the radiance of life".
Trivia[]
- Despite being classified as an almighty skill, HP is used instead of SP. This is a reference to the protagonist sacrificing their life in order to perform the great seal.
