"That's just a little something I've been working on in secret. The grappling hook lets you zip to hard-to-reach locations in a flash. You'll see what I'm talking about when you test it out. Go ahead, give it a try."
—Morgana, Persona 5 Royal

The ownership of the Grappling Hook allows the protagonist to take up various shortcuts in Palaces.
Additionally, ranking up Sumire Yoshizawa's Confidant to 4 allows him to use Chaînés Hook (シェネワイヤー, Shene Waiyā)? to ambush enemies. Shadows ambushed this way may be afflicted with Fear, Confuse, or Dizzy upon entering combat. Chaînés Hook can even inflict ailments to enemies with innate immunity, like Treasure Demons or Savage Shadows.
Chaînés Hook is not available in Mementos, as travel is done via the Morgana Car.

Trivia[]
- In spite of being introduced as a major game mechanic in Persona 5 Royal, the game does not mark the first appearance of the protagonist using a grappling hook, as it was used for a background visual for the System sub-menu in the original release of Persona 5. He later uses it a few times during cutscenes in Persona 5 Tactica.
- One of Joker's moves in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate depicts him using the grappling hook as his up-special, either for pulling opponents towards him, or as a tether recovery when he is knocked off a stage.
- As Joker's addition to the game's roster predates Royal's full reveal to the public, it is unclear as to whether the grappling hook was an intentional nod to its inclusion as a gameplay mechanic in P5R.
- The grappling hook given to the protagonist is one of the tools made by Morgana.
