Profile[]
The party explores the Giant Sandworm's Nest after escaping from the Giant Sandworm's Belly. The fallen knight, Heismay Noctule, has made his encampment within the cavern. Stumbling upon a hut shortly after entering, the party begins to wonder how Heismay could possibly be holding anyone there given the conditions and the presence of monsters within the area. Approaching the hut, the party finds themselves under attack by the human, as it tries to use the gloom of the caverns to ambush them. The group finds themselves saved by Heismay himself, who addresses the party afterward. Learning that they have come for him, he engages the party in a battle. Finding himself being pushed back despite the use of his mirage arts, Heismay disengages and disappears in a puff of smoke, leaving the party to investigate the interior of the hut for clues about the kidnappings.
Within, Strohl immediately notes that there appears to be no sign of the kidnapping victims within. Looking through Heismay's possessions, they learn more about their eugief quarry. A Royal Knight's Insignia turns out to be the mark of the Shadowguard, a unit not generally recognized that works in the shadow of the honored nights, but who focus sharply on skill. The small jar is revealed to be a burial urn, Hulkenberg explains the eugief custom of cremating their dead, noting the urn likely belongs to Heismay's own child, with him being unable to find a proper burial site for them, as he is a fugitive. The cloth wrapped packages are noted by the party, realizing that the entire area is bound in cloth, including the floor and walls. A child's letter in the far corner is a letter written to Heismay by their child, the group noting that the child was well educated and saw him as a good father.
Finding nothing to clear Heismay of the charges within the tent, the party reasons that they'll have to speak directly to Heismay. Realizing from the sound dampening effect of the cloth that Heismay must be sensitive to loud noises, and that making a clamour so loud that the party can't stand would be a way to draw him out. After finding a suitable location, the party resorts to banging metal kitchenware together while yelling, the noise echoing loudly in the caves. The resulting commotion is enough to bring Heismay falling from the cavern walls. After a conversation where Heismay learns that charges of kidnapping have been leveled against him, the party again finds themselves in a confrontation with him, him stating that he will not go to the gallows before honoring his son's death.
Following the confrontation, the party continues to debate as to whether or not Heismay is the true culprit. Heismay agrees to surrender himself if the party deems that he is indeed the culprit, and offers himself up after their captive before returning with them to the gauntlet runner.
