Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. The Soulless Army[]

A Major General for the Japanese Imperial Army, Narumi knows he has been in charge of many “Super” projects in the past. Back when Narumi was in the military, Munakata cared about the people of Japan, and would do anything in his power to help them. Now, however, his Super Soldier Project has gone against much of what he stood for in the past.

He is first seen seizing a bandage suffused with a demon's blood, taken from a dark ritual involving Kaya Daidouji. Later on, he visits Waden One and summons Mishaguji in an attempt to kill Raidou. Eventually, he is confronted at the Army's Subterranean Shipbuilding Facility in a last effort to convince him to back down.

In reality, Munakata has been possessed by the tiny deity Sukuna-Hikona for quite a while, and no longer exists in this world. Sukuna-Hikona, called by the cries of the damned who lost their lives in countless wars, violently possessed him and used his body as a puppet with which to kill Raidou.

Furious with the defeat and displacement of his own people, the tiny god appeared to purge The Capital of the slaves of Amatsu. His weapon of choice is the Soulless God Oumagatsu in the shape of a massive armored mecha capable of leveling the entire Capital if necessary.

A brutal fight ensues, during which Munakata's body is used by the deity. When damaged, Sukuna-Hikona partially exits the body via the mouth and fights with Raidou to the death.

Etymology[]

  • The surname Munakata means "religion, sect, denomination, main point, origin, essence" (宗) (muna) and "image, statue, picture, figure, portrait" (像) (kata).
    • Munakata is taken from the Three Munakata Goddesses (宗像三女神, Munakata san jojin).
      • In the mythology, Susano-o Mikoto (素戔嗚尊, Susano-o Mikoto) went to bid his sister Amaterasu-ōmikami (天照大神, Amaterasu-ōmikami) goodbye, however, Amaterasu doubted his intention; to prove his sincerity, Susano-o gave Amaterasu the Sword of Totsuka (十束剣, Totsuka-no-Tsurugi) which Amaterasu shattered and used to create the Three Munakata Goddesses from the sword's debris. The Three Munakata Goddesses were believed to be the sea goddesses.
