In Japanese folklore, Gashadokuro, (餓者髑髏) also known as Odokuro (大髑髏), are giant skeletons, fifteen times taller than an average person. If a Gashadokuro sees a human, it will grab them and attempt to bite their head off. Gashadokuro are created from gathering bones from people who have died of starvation. The only way a Gashadokuro can be detected before it appears is by hearing a ringing in one's ears.
"A giant skeleton monster formed from the souls of humans who died in battle or of hunger. It walks around at night, making clattering noises as it searches for humans to attack. Perhaps it is lonely, looking for companions."

Gashadokuro was charged with destroying Kaya Daidouji's diary before anyone could read it. Raidou Kuzunoha the XIV reads the diary in the cell underneath the Daidouji Residence before it gets destroyed, so Gashadokuro attacks him. Gashadokuro will be accompanied by two Turdaks during the battle and will summon more should they be defeated. It will also frequently use Electricity attacks. If Raidou recruited Raiju prior to the battle, it will be able to drain most of his magic attacks, leaving Raidou free to attack normally.
Gashadokuro begins appearing as a regular enemy in the alternate reality versions of Dark Sakuradayama and Dark Ginza-Cho in Episode 9.
