Frozen in Shin Megami Tensei

Freeze (氷結, Hyōketsu)? is a negative status effect that is commonly inflicted after being struck by Ice Skills, but can also be caused by the effect of some weapons and bullets. The target's evasion is dropped to zero when frozen, but there are additional effects depending on the game.

A frozen character will skip their turn and unfreeze immediately afterward.

Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne[]

Frozen characters lose whatever immunity they had to physical attacks and will always receive critical hits. A character will unfreeze once their team's turns starts.

Digital Devil Saga series[]

Frozen characters lose whatever immunity they had to physical attacks and will always receive critical hits, but become incredibly resistant to Hunt skills despite still counting as criticals. A character will unfreeze once their team's turns starts.

Megami Ibunroku Persona[]

A frozen character becomes more vulnerable to Electric Skills. The number of turns a character stays frozen can stack, and that number is reduced by one at the end of each turn. Being hit by Fire Skills will fasten the recovery.

Freeze in Reload

Frozen combatants have an increased chance of receiving critical hits. A combatant will unfreeze at the start of their turn.

In Reload, Freeze prevents a combatant from moving for one turn and will wear off at the start of their next turn. It is also removed when the combatant is hit with any attack, including with Ice. Physical attacks landing on a Frozen combatant will always become a critical hit. When afflicted with Freeze, affinities to Slash, Strike, Pierce damage, whether weakness or resistances, are all set to neutral.

Persona 4 Arena / Ultimax[]

A frozen character cannot move. They can unfreeze by breaking free of the ice by themselves by rapidly inputting the left and right buttons. They will also unfreeze if they are hit by an attack.

Persona 5 / Royal[]

A Frozen combatant is unable to take actions. Freeze allows Technical damage from Physical, Gun and Nuclear skills, melee attacks included. Frozen combatants have their affinities to Physical and Gun (either weakness, resistance, reflection or absorption) changed to neutral until thawed, although protections from Tetrakarn and Counter skills still function as normal.

Attacking a Frozen combatant in any way, including with an Ice skill or an All-out Attack, will thaw them. The combatant's own repelled attack will also remove the ailment, but this can only happen due to the following glitch.

Combatants immune to Ice damage because of their affinity are also immune to Freeze, unless they are under the effect of Ice Break.

In Persona 5 Royal, if a combatant simultaneously Downs an enemy and gets Frozen (e.g. from a reflected Ice Skill), the combatant will still get a One More but Freeze prevents them from taking an action with it. However, due to a glitch, if this attack happens after a Baton Pass, the combatant will be able to act freely during the One More even while being Frozen. In either case, an irregular Hold Up will be initiated if all enemies are Downed after this.

Frozen Shadows cannot be negotiated with.

Persona 5 Tactica[]

A frozen unit is unable to act for their next turn. A frozen unit will be thawed after their turn passes or if they are attacked again while frozen.

If a frozen party member is cured during the players turn, such as with Diamrita, they can regain their action for that turn.

Freezing a revenger unit will prevent their Counter from activating unless they are thawed by another attack.
