Eve from SMTNINE

Eve in Shin Megami Tensei NINE

Eve (イブ, Ibu) is a demon in the series.

History

In Judaic and Christian teachings, Eve ate the fruit of knowledge, after giving in to the temptation of the serpent in the Garden of Eden and eating a slice of the fruit, afterwards offering it to Adam, exiling them from the Garden and Eve being the one who birthed sin into the world. Usually it is shown to be Eve's fault in the traditional teachings.

In Islamic teachings, Eve is not named in the Qu'ran but referred to as حواء (Hawwāʾ), and was tempted by a possible Shaytan, who reached the Garden by hiding under a peacocks feathers, and reached Eve by transferring to a serpents mouth. From there, he tempted Eve with false promises of what the fruit would do to benefit her and Adam. Eve then shared the fruit to Adam, which caused both of them to be scolded by the Creator for the sin of disobedience, and then were placed on Earth. Both begged for forgiveness, which was given to them.

In Gnosticism, Eve is seen as the embodiment of the female principle (Barbelo), because of this she is held in the same regard as the 'light-maiden' Sophia, or in certain texts Zoe (Life). In other Gnostic texts like The Hypostasis of the Archons (The Reality of the Rulers), the Pistis Sophia is equated with Eve's daughter, Norea, the wife of Seth. Because of these Gnostic beliefs, women were considered equal to men, being revered as prophets, teachers, traveling evangelists, faith healers, priests and even bishops.
