Esau is a leader of a group of scholars and an explorer obsessed with finding the mythical city Blantica. He helps the allied kingdoms along the way against Magoku but will part with the party when information on the city comes up. When the party finds the city he reveals to its leaders that he wants them to revive his dead wife Iria and son Rand. However, they refuse to defy fate, having discarded the Necronomicon that contains the art of resurrection 1,000 years ago. However with Yuri's help he meets his family's spirits one more time and is heartened by the love and desire for him to protect the world and causes him to rejoin the group.
Esau appears to be the only one of Yuri's allies who is not a reincarnation of a previous friend of his. But the bonds forged with Yuri and the others allow him to master force as well. Esau continues exploring and gaining knowledge at the end of the game.
