"I'm scared we're entering a world where corruption is free to flourish... And, even worse... I'm scared of becoming someone who's okay with that. So I fight because I refuse to give up and turn a blind eye to the injustices in my world."
Erina, known as Elle in Japanese, is the leader of the Rebel Corps, and a main and playable character in Persona 5 Tactica. She is one of the first people the Phantom Thieves of Hearts meet in the Marie Kingdom after having been transported there, and formed an alliance with her and her group to stage a revolution against the Legionnaires.
Appearances[]
- Persona 5 Tactica: Playable Character
Design[]
Erina has light gray/light violet hair that covers her right eye. She has red eyes and a single visible earring on her left ear. Her outfit resembles a military dress uniform, with her right arm having it's sleeve rolled up with a fingerless glove on her right hand. She has a torn red skirt that's knee-length with a belt and her left leg is covered entirely by a removable metal greave. Her main weapon is a spear that can manifest a flag with the design of the Rebel Corps emblem and the text "Si vis pacem, te ispum vince." This translates to "If you want peace, conquer yourself." Upon officially allying with the Phantom Thieves of Hearts, the flag's design changes to also feature a version of their logo with a bullet in the center of the flag and two pistols.
Personality[]
Erina is trusted for her initiative and has a bright and energetic personality, although she sometimes acts without thinking too deeply, something that Toshiro admonishes her for. Character designer Hanako Oribe commented in an interview with Famitsu that "Erina is more of a girl who leads amongst her allies and raises the morale of those around her, even if she herself is hurt."[1][2] She can also sometimes be very bossy or vitriolic in a playful matter. This is mostly similar to the person she's based on, Eri Natsuhara, who has a similar upfront personality and tends to act bossy towards Toshiro in a playful way.
Erina is horrible at acting, to the point that Futaba compared Ann Takamaki's acting favorably against Erina's.
Profile[]
Persona 5 Tactica[]
Erina is the manifestation of Toshiro Kasukabe's repressed will of rebellion, made in the image of his high school friend, Eri Natsuhara. She was created some time after Toshiro was inspired to rebel against his own father and fiance after witnessing the actions of Guernica and the Phantom Thieves after the former defaced the Diet Building, and the latter hijacked a television broadcast to call out Masayoshi Shido. With Toshiro seriously considering speaking out (even if it meant the end of his own political career) Salmael, the god borne of the masses' desire for tranquility invaded Toshiro's mind and attempted to break his spirit by manifesting images of his trauma and the most domineering figures of his life in his cognition, all in an attempt to push him into complicity and influence the masses as the person deemed to be the future prime minister and quash further rebellion in the masses. It was at this moment that Erina was born from Toshiro's heart, created by Toshiro's subconcious mind to protect him from Salmael's influence. In this moment, Erina was given Toshiro's inner power, the seed of will, which allowed Erina to resist Salmael's influence, creating a stalemate within Toshiro's mind and halting the god's influence on it. With Erina halting its plans, Salmael grew desperate, and in a last ditch effort, pulled Toshiro into the world of his unconscious with the intention of breaking his spirit or killing him outright.
Erina was first seen saving the protagonist and Morgana from the cognitive counterpart of Marie after she brainwashes all of the other members of the Phantom Thieves of Hearts through her kisses and was about to kill or torture them. After making an escape, the three discuss about their current situation before moving to the Rebel Corps Hideout, a copy of Café Leblanc. However, Erina does not know what she is other than she is the leader of the Rebel Corps, but since she saved the protagonist and Morgana and had a common goal with them, they strike a deal to team up with her. However, she does not know what she is, nor is she capable of giving any concrete information about the world's nature. All she knew is she's been resisting Marie since she was born.
Erina is also in charge of the in-game shop, where she would order items from a mysterious vendor (heavily implied to be Lavenza).
On the way to rescuing the rest of the Phantom Thieves in a prison cell, Erina spots a man and saves him by unlocking his cell. It was at the meantime Ann and Futaba attacked with Marie speaking through them. Despite being unable to snap them out by force, her spear turns into a glowing flag. After Joker destroys the Marie Kingdom flag controlling Ann and Futaba, Erina puts her spear-flag onto the flag post, snapping them out. The party then releases Ryuji and Haru the same way, but when she tries to do the same against Makoto and Yusuke, a sniper shoots her and renders her unconscious, prompting Toshiro to put the flag in her stead.

Etymology[]
Her name is the first five letters of the name of her real counterpart, Eri Natsuhara. Her Japanese name, Elle (エル), is the first two letters of "Ernesto" (エルネスト).
Trivia[]
- So far, Erina is the only playable character of the Persona 5 series who fights without using a Persona. This is similar to Zen and Rei from Persona Q who also participate in battle without a persona. This is likely because Erina is a disembodied Persona, much like Zen, a Shadow known as Chronos who also passed on parts of his powers to Rei.
- There are various hints to Erina's true nature throughout the game.
- Some of Erina's dialogue are variations of things Natsuhara said to Toshiro, furthering a connection. In a similar vein, Toshiro and Erina sometimes come to the exact same conclusion (such as calling Morgana a "catfish" when the Phantom Thieves first meet her).
- The full-leg greave on her left leg and the bangs hiding her right eye correspond to the grave injuries Eri Natsuhara suffered during the fallout with Ichiro Nakabachi. Natsuhara was no longer able to walk without a cane and was heavily implied to have been lost her right eye during that incident.
- Erina wears a fingerless black glove on her left hand, where Toshiro wears a white glove on his right. However, Natsuhara's left hand is seemingly shown undamaged in the hospital flashback, but her right hand is wrapped with bandages.
- Erina's status is described by Lavenza and Morgana as a rather unique one, as she displays elements of a Persona, a Shadow, and a cognitive being (due to being based on a figure in Toshiro Kasukabe's life in appearance and personality). She also displayed autonomy and retains her personality and can revert back to her original appearance even after awakening to her power as a Persona.
- Her unique existence is somewhat comparable to that of Metis's, as much like Erina, she is a repressed facet of Aigis' personality that briefly exists independently of Aigis while Aigis is able to summon Personas, much like how Toshiro was able to have a shadow self and a Persona simultaneously and how Erina is able to exist independently of Toshiro during his time in the cognitive world.
- Similar to how Yuki represents Toshiro's opposition and resistance to his father, Erina, being Eri Natsuhara's counterpart, represents Toshiro's resistance and opposition to his fiancée and arranged marriage.
- During a side skit, Erina tried to summon a Persona to no avail, even though Erina later becomes a Persona.
- As seen when she tries to explain Salmael, Erina's drawing skills are questionable.
- Her birthday falls in the same day as the deadline to send the Calling Card to Masayoshi Shido.
