Eiselin Burchelli Meijal HulkenbergParty

Eiselin Burchelli Meijal Hulkenberg, or Eiselin Hulkenberg for short, is a major playable character in Metaphor: ReFantazio. She is a knight of the populous Roussainte tribe, and was a former member of the royal family's Kingsguard who served, but failed, to protect the prince after his attack, wandering the kingdom in shame. After hearing of King Hythlodaeus V's death, she returns back in combat.

Appearances[]

Personality[]

Hulkenberg is dignified and formal in nature. She has a dutiful disposition as she puts serious pride in protecting others's lives, and would be deeply ashamed if she failed, especially with the prince she's been assigned to protect. She has a strict training regimen that she once enforces onto Strohl and the protagonist, though it's exhausting for them in comparison.

Though sometimes stubborn and stoic, she has a goofy side that surfaces while eating unconventional food.

Profile[]

Eiselin Hulkenberg hails from the Hulkenberg family, a prestigious noble family in the Principality of Montario. She is however an outcast of her family, as while she excelled in martial prowess and weaponry despite her young age, her father and brothers rose in politics. As such, she pursued a career as a knight in spite of her family's opposition.

She was once a member of the royal knights, and served the prince alongside Arvid Alces. After the prince's attack, not only was she overriden with regrets of her failure, considering her relationship with her family, she was too ashamed to return home. Though the prince was declared dead soon after his disappearance, Hulkenberg believed that he was alive and searched for him alone.

Prologue[]

Hulkenberg is first seen on the highway on the way to the Royal Capital Grand Trad, when the carriage is suddenly attacked by bandits with a gauntlet runner who are believers of Louis Guiabern. Though she seemingly cooperates with the robbing, as soon as one kills a man in cold blood and "draws steel," she runs the offending bandit through with her sword in return. While nothing else is shown of the battle after the protagonist is thrown down a cliff face by the leading bandit for not giving up the Fantasy Novel he possessed, it is presumed Hulkenberg put the rest of the bandits to the sword.

During the royal funeral after Alces's death, Hulkenberg is encountered again. There, thanks to the protagonist and Strohl's ties to Alces, she offers her aid in trust, and they plan to infiltrate the Regalith Grand Cathedral to reclaim it. However, on the way, she asks them about their collective motivation to assassinate Louis Guiabern, which they hide from her and excuse as revenge. This confuses Hulkenberg as Grius is not a man who would succumb to emotion.

Later in the Cathedral, they encounter Alces's dead body controlled by the necromancer Zorba's magic, and he overwhelms the party. Hulkenberg, in guilt and despair, is saved by the protagonist once he tells her the truth of the prince, revealing he's still alive, and that they want to assassinate Louis to lift the curse. Hulkenberg's sense of duty then triggers her awakening to the Knight Archetype. After defeating the Undead Grius, she officially joins the party on their mission, as well as to ensure Grius hasn't died in vain.
