Profile[]
History[]
A kingdom founded 1500 years ago by King Aquila, it has been a kingdom at peace thanks to the Samurai. The current year is 1492 (Gregorian calendar). The nation was ruled by King Ahazuya Mikado, whose palace is situated in the very center of Castle City. He was casted off and exiled by the four archangels Uriel, Raphael, Gabriel and Michael who took over the kingdom when Gabriel freed the other three from the seals cast by Mastema (who felt they were too insane and dangerous to be let around), then was hunted down and killed by angels. Moments prior to his death, his new patron god Baal took over and possessed his corpse. Since then, Gabriel, as "Gabby," ruled over the kingdom with an iron fist with Hugo as the figurehead ruler. The city is heavily fortified and features wide and decorated streets. Flynn, Isabeau, Jonathan, Walter, Navarre, and Gaston are Samurai from this country.
Most of the Samurai and the ruling Heralds believe that the people of Tokyo are filth with too much knowledge in their hands that might taint the pure society of Eastern Kingdom of Mikado and eventually had to be exterminated to maintain God's order. The Heralds in particular had been accustomed to calling the people of Tokyo "Unclean Ones" or "Filth." Merkabah in Apocalypse later expands the term to anyone who gets in his way during Armageddon.
Caste system[]
The people of Eastern Mikado are divided by the caste system into "Luxurors" (ラグジュアリーズ, Ragujuarīzu)? and "Casualries" (カジュアリティーズ, Kajuaritīzu)?. Luxurors are the noble class, wealthy and powerful they live in the inner areas of Mikado Castle. Casualries, on the other hand, are the lower class and are the laborers and downtrodden. They live in the outer rim of Mikado Castle or villages beyond the capital and are looked down upon by the Luxurors.
Descendants of Eastern Mikado are obligated to succeed the family business, which renders the caste identity to be carried over generations. The only exception is for a Casualry to be enlisted into the Samurai, effectively changing the identity of the selected individual into a Luxuror. However, very rarely is a Casualry chosen for the role.
Casualry are not taught because of their role as the lower class and for this most don't know mystic script. With the Black Samurai's arrival they began to learn from the literature she gives, learning the script quickly. Sabbaths, large gatherings for discussion of the literature, are held throughout the villages beyond the capital as these books spread. Unfortunately, these discussions often turn the participants into Demons. Later on, it's revealed that the books shared in these Sabbaths were completely mundane books brought from Tokyo, but the books bring forth suppressed desires from the villagers who were not taught anything and illiterate from birth, which turns them into Demons (as educated people such as Isabeau can read one without being affected).
Language and Writing[]
In Shin Megami Tensei IV Apocalypse it is revealed the kingdoms official spoken language is Japanese, but everything is written in English. The Mystic Script from Tokyo being words written in kanji and kana.
Time Dilation[]
"According to its history, Mikado has existed for 1500 years. The dome the nation is built upon, however, only appeared 25 years ago. The difference is caused by time flowing differently in Tokyo and Mikado."
The difference between both nation is 1 day in Tokyo and 75 days in Mikado, approximately six months: six and a half year time difference. Shesha damaging the dome and creating a hole undid it, allowing time to flow the same in both.
Etymology[]
"Mikado" is straightly "imperial" (kanji: 帝) in Japanese language. "Kanto" (カントー, Kantou)? directly refers to Kantō region (関東地方) of Japan.
