Devil Survivor 2 The Animation is the second manga adaptation of the video game, Devil Survivor 2. It is illustrated by Haruto Shiota (汐田晴人) and follows the same script as its animated version by screenwriter Makoto Uezu (上江洲誠, known for his works on My Bride is a Mermaid and School Days) with some changes.
The manga premiered in Japan on December 18, 2012 in Monthly GFantasy, a manga magazine affiliated to Square-Enix. The first volume of tankōbon was published on March 27, 2013. The fourth and final volume was released in 2014.
Differences with the anime[]
There are some significant differences between the anime and manga:
- During the battle at Festival Gate, Keita reveals his reason to join JP's before he was killed by Botis.
- Yamato's past prior to fighting Phecda was never shown, though chapter 16 cover shows him when he was a child playing chess with Alcor.
- The scene where Io is supposed to have conversation with Otome and including the scene where Joe and Daichi attempted to peek girl's physical exam was replaced with Hibiki, Daichi, Joe, Jungo, and Ronaldo talking during physical exam. Jungo's cat also make an appearance.
- The summoning of Shiva and Kama and Alioth's defeat was skipped and only narrated by Yamato and Fumi.
- Other than the time when Daichi saved him from bullies, Hibiki's past was never shown. This flashback is also shown after Daichi summoned Black Frost.
- During the battle against Io who was possessed by Lugh, Hibiki never goes to follow Io and instead directly confronted her when she arrived at the Diet Building.
- After freeing Io from Lugh, Hibiki continues to refer her on first name basis instead of reverting to her last name.
- During the battle against Benetnasch, Yamato warns the others that he'll lower to length of his barrier and for them to protect themselves.
- In the climax, Lucifer didn't hug Satan when he defeated it.
- In the epilogue, Hinako and Keita met again.
- In the epilogue, instead of inviting through mail, Makoto invites Fumi directly to hang out together during weekend.
- In the epilogue, Hibiki didn't insist when he asked to enter the Diet Building and immediately gave up to enter after seeing limousine without Yamato inside, but then comes face to face with Yamato outside the building and both reconciles.
