This article is about the the affinity of skills. For for the major branch of skill types, see Dark Skills (Branch). |
Dark, formerly known as Death (呪殺?, lit. "curse kill"), also known as Darkness (暗黒, Ankoku)? / (闇, Yami)? and Curse (呪怨, Juon)? in Persona 5, is a spell type in the series and the most recurring line of Dark Skills. Like its light counterpart, Light, Dark skills tend to focus on inflicting instant death, though exceptions do exist.
In most cases, as Death skills, they are a sub-branch of Dark Skills.
General Spells[]
Mudo is the general Dark elemental spell.
Dark skills are always in some way or other automatically blocked by bosses, in order to prevent them from being used to instantly kill the bosses.
In games where the only Dark damaging skills are Death skills such as in Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey and Persona 3, all bosses will have an innate void against Dark.
In games where Dark damaging skills (Curse) and Death skills are separate (such as Persona 5 or Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth), all bosses will block Death as if it were a status condition. Curse skills will still affect them unless dictated otherwise.
In games where Dark damaging skills can inflict Death, the Death effect will only activate during certain circumstances, and is either replaced with another or completely nullified if the skills were used against bosses.
- Shin Megami Tensei IV Apocalypse: Dark skills do regular damage, but will instantly kill enemies during Smirk. If a boss is targeted by a Dark skill from a character with Smirk, it will do critical damage instead of instantly killing it.
- Shin Megami Tensei V: Dark skills do regular damage, but will instantly kill enemies if they hit a weakness. If a boss is targeted by a Dark Skill, they cannot be instantly killed even if they are weak to it.
