Counter (カウンタ, Kaunta)? / (反撃, Hangeki)? is a passive skill.
Effect[]
In the Shin Megami Tensei franchise, Counter gives the user a chance to instantly make a weak physical attack against any physical skill or regular attack that hits them.
In Shin Megami Tensei V, Counter activates after being hit, and on explicitly Strength-based attacks. Counter does not activate on attacks that kill the user. Counter does not activate Charging effects, such as Charge and Critical Aura (with the exception of Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne, where the effect of Focus will be spent on the counterattack). If Counter activates against an enemy that repels or drains the affinity, the attack will simply be blocked.
In Soul Hackers 2, Counter can activate upon any Physical or Gunfire attacks/skills. If a weakness is struck at a result of Counter activating, it will not increase the stack count for Sabbaths. Milady's Piercer ability does not appear to trigger Counter from enemies.
In the Persona series, Counter automatically grants the user a low chance of being defended from a physical attack and reflecting it back at the attacker. In Persona 4, Counter can activate for full damage even if the user is currently guarding.
In Persona 5, the skill can also reflect Gun Skills, unlike Repel Physical. However, it does not protect the user from repelled attacks. When performing gun attacks, each individual round has a chance to be reflected by Counter, in which case the user's turn will immediately end. The reflection granted by Counter cannot be ignored by Oda Special.
In the Digital Devil Saga duology, Counter can stack with other Counter skills such as Counterstrike and High Counter, and these passives will work in Human Form.
In Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE/Encore, Counter allows the user to be defended from any physical attack and reflect it back at the attacker for one round. This skill will also draw enemy aggression toward the user.
