The North part of the Central Shopping District
The Central Shopping District (稲羽市中央通り商店街, Inaba-shi Chuuoudouri Shoutengai)? is a location in Persona 4. Located within the eastern part of Inaba, the shopping district is the heart of activity in the rural town. Many of the protagonist's activities take place here.
The area is divided into two parts: the Shopping District North (北側, kitagawa)? and South (南側, minagawa)?. It spans along a winding street which leads to a busy road at both ends. Way north of the district is the Yasoinaba Station. According to the locals, the district used to be bustling with life, with businesses thriving. Ever since the opening of the Junes Department Store, many shops have closed down.
Locales[]
North[]
Konishi Liquors[]
Konishi Liquors (コニシ酒店, Konishi sake ten)? is a small store run by Saki and Naoki Konishi's family. A version of it also exists in the Midnight Channel within the Twisted Shopping District. It had been doing poorly after Junes' grand opening but gained more customers after Saki's death.[1]
Tatsumi Textiles[]
A dye and clothes shop run by Kanji Tatsumi's family. The Amagi Inn is one of their patrons, which is why Yukiko is acquainted with Kanji.
Tatsuhime Shrine[]
A shrine overlooking the district on the hills that has long since been abandoned, though people occasionally write their wishes on ema. A fox living here wishes for the requests to be fulfilled by the protagonist so that word may spread about the shrine and people will visit it more.
In Golden, the protagonist can now draw a fortune from the yashiro for ¥200 to gain Social Link points with someone or catch bugs after receiving the Butterfly Net after 4/18. With Rank 2 Courage (Reliable), the protagonist can enter the shrine at night. During the evenings, a kimono-clad lady in white requests fish to eat. Trading certain fish will reward the protagonist with gemstones.
Marutake Hobby Shop[]
Marutake Hobby Shop (丸竹模型店, Marutake mokei ten)? is a model store that has closed due to lack of business. The daughter of the owners is a student at Yasogami High School. After accepting Quest 30: I Wish My Life Had Meaning Again, the protagonist can speak to the owner and obtain Unfinished Models to assemble on his table back at the Dojima Residence. After completing one, the owner will give the protagonist the next on the list. Only MF-06S Brahman and Heavy-Armor Agni are available.
In Golden, the hobby shop can be visited at night. There are four new robot models and six new scooter models.

Town Bulletin Board[]
- Main article: Part-time Jobs
A notice board where the protagonist can check for job openings starting 4/23. The part-time jobs available are tutoring, hospital janitor, daycare assistant, envelope-folding, origami-making and translating documents. In Golden, getting a job with evening hours allows the protagonist to leave the Dojima Residence on nights when Dojima is home.
There is also a poster of Misuzu Hiiragi that the protagonist can examine, noted to be the same poster that was torn up inside the Midnight Channel. It is likely an advertisement for an enka song, reading: "Samegawa Bojou: Misuzu Hiiragi." Boujou in Japanese means "longing, yearning."
Souzai Daigaku[]
Souzai Daigaku (惣菜大学, University of side-dishes)? is a store that sells Steak Croquettes and Steak Skewers. Originally a lingerie store, the current owner first turned it into a butcher before settling on a prepared food store that sells "a taste of mom's cooking." A beefsteak menu was added in an attempt to revitalize the town. The skewers themselves are said to be 80% beef with the other 20% being a trade secret.[2] Since Inaba has no local meat farms, it is unknown where the beef comes from, though Atlus has clarified that it is beef.[2]
Item | Stock | Price (¥) | Availability |
---|---|---|---|
Super Croquette | 5 | 100 | Rainy weather only |
Steak Croquette | 1 | 150 | Every day |
Steak Skewer | 1 | 320 | Every day |
Chinese Diner Aiya[]
Chinese Diner Aiya (中華料理店愛家, Chuuka ryouri ten aiya)? is a favorite of Chie Satonaka, Kou Ichijo and Daisuke Nagase. Claims to be authentic Shanghai-style Chinese cuisine but the owner was born and raised in Inaba. The protagonist can eat at Aiya to increase his Social Stats. Used to be an oil store.[2] In the anime, Aika Nakamura works here.
On rainy days, Aiya serves a special dish with six pounds of rice and meat; if the protagonist can eat it entirely, the meal is free. When asked what the meat is, the owner replies that it's "Chinese cuisine, so it's sheep head and dog meat," referencing an expression about selling misleading products. In actuality, the meat is cheap but good quality pork.[note 1][2] After eating at Aiya eight times, the protagonist receives a book called The Ramen Way.

South[]
Shiroku Store[]
Shiroku Store sells expendable items and has a 20% sale on rainy days. The capsule machine outside was handmade by Shiroku's deceased husband.[3][4] It costs ¥200 to play and only works on rainy days. Using it will make time pass and the protagonist will receive one random prize from the list below. If the prize gets stuck and the protagonist calls Old Lady Shiroku, he will receive a Chest Key in addition to the prize, in random quantities.

Shiroku Pub[]
Only in Golden, at night the Shiroku Store transforms into the Shiroku Pub, a glitzy bar where Old Lady Shiroku dresses up in heavy makeup and a sparkly red dress. The protagonist can exchange gemstones for items, feed Akihiko the fish for Bread Crumbs, or work as a dishwasher to increase his Diligence. Depending on the customer, the protagonist may also gain points in Courage, Understanding, Expression or Knowledge.
Marukyu Tofu[]
Marukyu Tofu (丸久豆腐店, Marukyuu toufu ten)? is a tofu store run by Rise Kujikawa's grandmother. It has been less active as of late and Rise's grandmother, being the only employee, has shortened store hours.[5] When Rise returns to help out at the store in June, this allows her grandmother to make more tofu again. Rise is in charge of the morning batch before she goes to school, causing male customers to line up early in the morning.[2]
Daidara Metalworks[]
Daidara Metalworks is an equipment shop that sells weapons, armors and accessories. The inventory updates whenever the protagonist sells a specified amount of a material dropped by Shadows within the Midnight Channel. It is also open at night on rainy days.
Velvet Room[]
A portal to the Velvet Room, an ultramarine-colored door, is found between Daidara Metalworks and Yomenaido Bookstore. Here, the protagonist can manage his Personas and rank up the Empress Social Link.
In Golden, the protagonist can hand over new Skill Cards and buy copies of previously obtained ones.
Yomenaido Bookstore[]
- Main article: Books
Yomenaido Bookstore (四目内堂書店, Yomenaidou shoten)? is a store where the protagonist can purchase books and read them back in his bedroom at the Dojima Residence. It is named after the owner whose family name is Yomenai, meaning "can't read." The owner didn't realize how unfitting the name was until after they opened.[2]
In Persona 4, new books are stocked periodically. If the previous book is not purchased by the date the next is added, the protagonist will be unable to buy the book.
In Golden, books now remain on sale even when new books are in stock.

Moel Gas Station[]

The gas station as it appears in Persona 4 Arena
A gas station attendant stands in front of the station on rainy days.
In Golden, the Jester Social Link can be ranked up here at night. Additionally, the protagonist's party members will appear on their scooters on different days. Taking them for scooter rides can teach them new skills or allow them to relearn old skills.
Bus Stop[]
The protagonist can use the bus stop to travel to part-time jobs and occasionally story locations, such as the Amagi Inn.
In Persona 4, this was only used for the Temperance Social Link.
In Golden, the bus can now take the protagonist to the Devil and Tower Social Links at night.
Mailboxes[]
When the protagonist makes a purchase through Tanaka's Amazing Commodities, he receives a Prize Sticker. After collecting three stickers, he can use a mailbox in the north or south side of the shopping district and mail away for a random plentiful or rare prize.

Trivia[]
- Konishi Liquors is named after Toshiki Konishi, a developer whose family runs a liquor store. Initially intended to be a placeholder, the name stuck.[6]
- For the 15th anniversary of Persona 4, Atlus released a special sake with the Konishi Liquor branding.[7][8]
- Other shuttered businesses in the North of the shopping district include:
- Nishino Barber
- BIGSTONE Bicycle Shop
- Ichikawa Electronics
- Nakanishi Drugs
- Note that these names are only in Golden, as the stores are left blank in the original Persona 4.
Notes[]
- ↑ In the Japanese version, the rainy day special is called the Special Meat Bowl, not specifying what the meat is. In the English localization, it is called the Mega Beef Bowl.
