Cath Palug was a monstrous cat from French and Welsh mythology. It was said to inhabit the Isle of Anglesey where it ate a number of warriors who tried to slay it. Cath Palug was made out to be the offspring of the enormous sow Henwen, and when it was thrown into the sea to drown at birth, it instead managed to swim to the isle and was raised by the sons of Palug. It eventually escaped to wreak havoc until it was slain by either Sir Kay or King Arthur, depending on the version of the story.
