"You may struggle and resist as hard as you wish. But in the face of my shield, all of your efforts will be naught, and you will know your own shallowness!"
—Camael, Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon
Camael also known as Kamuel, Khamael, Chamuel, Camiel and Camniel, is a Judeo-Christian angel, often listed as one of the archangels. His name means "He Who Sees God." He governs beauty, joy and contentment. There are many stories of where Camael was, however, he is never mentioned in the Bible. As a result, he is not fully recognized by the Catholic Church. He is also associated with the planet Mars and is one of the ten archangels of the Tree of Life, presiding over the Sephiroth Gevurah.
Camael is the real identity of Dr. Bates. Later on in the game, when you access the files of the Core of Megapolis in 2052 AD he will arrive and ask you a series of questions which will determine if you take the Light or Dark Routes. However, your alignment will not change if you are already Neutrally aligned.
Shin Megami Tensei V[]
"The angel of god in Jewish mythology. He rules over the angels known as the Powers, and his name Camael means "one who sees god." He is also the commander of the angels of destruction, punishment, and death in addition to being the ruler of Mars."
—Shin Megami Tensei V lore
Camael appears in the quest "Angel of Destruction". After being directed by a Power to his location, he questions the protagonist over his Nahobino status and attacks them to uphold God's will. The protagonist defeats him, in which he reveals that the presence of a Nahobino other than the Creator would cause a schism. He also becomes unlockable for fusion after the battle.
Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon[]
If Raidou is Law Aligned, then Camael will join him in the final dungeon. If Raidou is Chaos or Neutral aligned he will fight them in the final dungeon. He will no longer watch from afar any longer and will attempt to prevent Raidou from succeeding at stopping Shinado since he is not obedient to the Law.
