Brimstone Star is a demon in the series.

History[]

Fire and brimstone is an idiomatic expression referring to God's wrath found in both the Hebrew Bible and the Christian New Testament. In the Bible, it often appears in reference to the fate of the unfaithful. Brimstone, an archaic term synonymous with sulfur, evokes the acrid odor of sulfur dioxide given off by lightning strikes. Lightning was understood as divine punishment by many ancient religions; the association of sulfur with divine retribution is common in the Bible.

The idiomatic English translation of "fire and brimstone" is found in the Christian King James Version translation of the Hebrew Bible and was also later used in the 1917 translation of the Jewish Publication Society. The 1857 Leeser translation of the Tanakh inconsistently uses both "sulfur" and "brimstone" to translate גׇּפְרִ֣ית וָאֵ֑שׁ. The translation used by the 1985 New JPS is "sulfurous fire" while the 1978 Christian New International Version translation uses "burning sulfur."

Used as an adjective, fire-and-brimstone often refers to a style of Christian preaching that uses vivid descriptions of judgment and eternal damnation to encourage repentance especially popular during historical periods of Great Awakening.

Shin Megami Tensei V[]

"A star of flames created by Lucifer.
In Militon's "Paradise Lost", the former angel is shown burning with passion, swearing to continue his rebellion, even after his defeat. Those who are hit with this falling star are said to be burned by his fiery passion."
Shin Megami Tensei V lore

The Brimstone Star is summoned by Lucifer during the battle.

The Cocytus and the Brimstone Stars have unique properties, as they have weaknesses parallel to Fire and Ice, but will grant Lucifer a weakness of the opposite type. In the case that both stars are present, Lucifer will gain both weaknesses. When the stars are destroyed, Lucifer's respective weakness will disappear along with them. However, if the stars aren't destroyed by the end of the next player turn, Lucifer will cast a severe piercing attack to 1 target. It is very easy for them to suffer an instant death. As such, the player's strategy will need to be planned out carefully, budgeting some turns to damage Lucifer while still having enough turns to destroy the star. If not, simply destroying the star and ignoring the opening Lucifer gives himself is enough.
