Bayonetta is a guest character from the Bayonetta series. She is one of numerous SEGA characters to appear in Shin Megami Tensei: Liberation Dx2, alongside Jeanne and Beloved from the same franchise.
She was revealed as a collaboration event on January 12th 2019, and added to the game as part of the event on February 14th 2019, and was the first of multiple collaborations in the game. Bayonetta's appearance is based on the first game and she wields Scarborough Fair, featuring her exact moveset from the same game.
Bayonetta is an umbran witch born from the forbidden union between umbran witch Rosa and lumen sage Balder 500 years prior to the first game. Her conception triggered a clan war between the witches and sages that saw the sages devastated, and was sealed off by Jeanne in a coffin. During the events of the first game, a corrupted Balder launched a series of witch hunts which killed most of the umbran witches bar Bayonetta and Jeanne, the former which awakened without her memories and was set on a quest for revenge against the angels.
Despite sadistic, prideful and generally uncaring of the collateral damage she might cause in battle, Bayonetta has been shown to have a compassionate side, especially towards counterparts of herself or people she cares about.
In the third game, a Bayonetta known as the "Arch-Eve Origin" sacrificed her life to save the multiverse from a reality-wiping A.I. commonly known as Singularity, and the daughter of an alternate Bayonetta and Luka Redgrave known as Viola replaced her as the Arch-Eve Origin. It is unclear if this is the same Bayonetta from the first two games.
Her design in Dx2 comes from the first game.
