Basmu is a demon in the series.

History

Bashmu is a serpentine monster from Mesopotamian mythology, mentioned among the enemies of Ninurta and among Tiamat's creations. It's possible it had many heads, like the Greek hydra, associated with the same constellation.

Similar serpentine creatures from Mesopotamian mythology include Ningishzida, a god of the underworld often depicted as a snake with a human head, as a pair of snakes, or as a snake entwined around a staff, and Marduk's sacred animal mushussu. These entities are sometimes used interchangeably in modern literature. Another similar serpent was seemingly associated with birth goddesses.
