The Badb Catha, literally meaning "battle crow," is a figure in Irish mythology. She is described as a demoness or a war and crow goddess who frequents battlefields, delighted with the deaths that occur there. She appears in combat to stroke morale and make soldiers fight brutally.
She would at times fill the soldiers with rage and fury, confusing them into going berserk. Though she is a war goddess, she feeds on the heads of the fallen and conveys the names of those destined to die, so she is seen as more of a Death figure.
In some depictions, Badb Catha is instead a group of Celtic goddesses that rule over love and war. The three goddess are Morrigan, Nemain, and Macha.
"Origin: Ireland. Celtic goddesses who rule over love and war. The three goddess are Morrigan, Nemain, and Macha. Morrigan attempted to court Cu Chulainn, but was rejected. She then cursed him to death."
