The Azumi, sometimes referred as Azumi-no-Isora, are an ancient tribe of water gods from Japan who excelled in fishing and are well versed in the way of water. It is said they are the descendants of Amaterasu, Tsukuyomi and Susano-o, the three gods sired by Izanagi after he returned from Yomi, the land of the dead. The deity Azumi is said to be a guardian of the people after which it is named, and can control the element of water similarly to its sibling deity, Isora.

"Water gods of the ancient Azumi tribe, versed in the way of water. Often referred to as Azumi-no-Isora. They are said to have arrived in Japan from the south, preferring a life at sea to a life on land. The god Azumi-no-Isora-Kami is their chief. Later, having settled peacefully in Japan, they scattered throughout the land. Azumi-no-Isora are also called Azumi-no-Isora-Maru, and it is for this reason that boats in Japan are named with the suffix "-maru," as a prayer to the Azumi for protection against disaster at sea. Azumi can be contracted on Nakano field. They appear as enemies in the early kappa events, on Ikebukuro field, and within Nakano Stone Site.

Azumi can be found as a common recruitable enemy in Sector Bootes.
Shin Megami Tensei IV[]

Azumi can be found in Kanda-no-yashiro. It can teach the Ice Breath, Posumudi and Mabufu skills through its Demon Whisper. Azumi benefits from learning Ice and healing skills.

Azumi can be found in the Shiba Park area of the Netherworld. Some Azumi have drawn the ire of a Mandrake in Shiba Park by cutting taking over a scarce source of water and cutting off access to the Mandrakes. A Mandrake will request that the protagonist punish 5 Azumi in the "Pollution Panic" subquest.

Azumi appears as a random enemy in the streets of Dark Tsukudo-Cho. It is the first demon to have the Fly investigation skill available, which it can use to reach a Bead healing item at Raidou's command in the area. Azumi's normal attack consists of a two-hit combo of claw swipes at close range. Azumi is the only source of the Bufu skill and the first of two demons to learn Heal Boost.
Its Bufu and Dia skills can be used to make the encounter with Tsuchigumo easier, as it is weak to Ice skills. Leveling up Azumi once to learn the Freeze Shot combination skill will allow Raidou to quickly damage the three mobs during the boss fight. Leveling Azumi up once more to learn Heal Boost will make its Dia skill more effective during the fight as well.
Azumi will later appear as a random encounter in the basement of the Daidouji Residence and the Daidouji Factory floor and Matrix Labyrinth.

Azumi is a demon of the Frost Order and can be found in the Fukorutsubo at the Narita Manor in Chapter 2.
