Asp is an archaic term for a kind of venomous snake which is said to have caused the poisoning and death of the legendary Egyptian queen Cleopatra.

"A mysterious venomous snake that can put its victim to sleep with its gaze alone.
Known as the serpent of death, it lulls its victims to sleep allowing it to deliver the fatal bite at will. Because male and female asps always live in pairs, it can be said to be an affectionate snake. If one of them is killed, the other will come for revenge. Egyptian cobras are currently known as asps."
