Ashura Society (八部連阿修羅会, Hachibu Ren Ashura Kai) is one of the two major organizations, besides Cult of Gaia, in the modern world Tokyo in Shin Megami Tensei IV. The society is led by Tayama and headquartered at Roppongi. It accepts people who seek protection from demons and negotiates with the demons to have them help establish new order to the now barren Tokyo, in which both races could coexist. However, the society is also known to exert merciless punishment to those disobey their rulings. They are in heated conflict with the Cult of Gaia, which pursues an opposite ideal.
Etymology
"Hachibu Ren" (八部連) in the full name of the organization means "eight divisions squad" which refers to the eight Buddhist guardians (八部衆). They are Deva, Dragon, Yaksa, Gandharva, Asura, Garuda, Kimnara and Mahoraga.
