As with all Full Moon Operation bosses, it represents the inverse values of its respective Tarot Card. The Hanged Man Arcana represents ultimate altruism and the self-sacrifice one must make in order to save or redeem another, all in the name of greater good, and a deep reflection over one's upcoming actions, to not rush towards them and thus to succeed in these actions. On the reverse, it represents indecisiveness, selfishness and the lack of desire to help others. The shadow is in the air refusing to help others, and does not do anything proactive unless it is in immediate danger. It also uses its Armed & Ready attack to sacrifice a Devious Maya, to self destruct and kill the party, representing a lack of compassion and the need to sacrifice others for a "greater good."
In Reload, it will attempt to use multiple moves in a single turn when its HP gets low (similar to True Samael Masayoshi Shido). This represents indecisiveness, as the Shadow decides to impulsively make multiple actions in a row in place of one, well-calculated move.
Profile[]
Persona 3[]
It resembles a large, muscular human figure that is hung on a cross upside down, with the wires connected by rings resembling halos. The body of the shadow is suspended by piercing its skin. Like other Hanged Man Shadows, its mask is an upside down face.
It is the final Arcana Shadow SEES is tasked by Shuji Ikutsuki to defeat in order to prevent the re-emergence of Death. In actuality, killing all twelve Shadows revives it, and Death has already reformed itself after defeating this Shadow. Shortly after Ikutsuki's betrayal and death, the Nyx Avatar manifests in the physical world as Ryoji Mochizuki.
Strategy[]
The Arcana Hanged Man is floating in the air on a cross, and there are three statues on the ground. Since the Arcana Hanged Man is in the air, it cannot be attacked, so the party must destroy the three statues which will bring the shadow to the ground. It also knocks the shadow down, leaving it open for an All-Out Attack. It mostly attacks with highly powerful physical attacks, so resistance to physical attacks is often needed. While on the ground, the shadow may summon a Devious Maya that it can order to self-destruct if they are not destroyed after a certain amount of time. After a few turns, it will return to the air. Occasionally, before all three statues are destroyed, the shadow will restore the statues that have been defeated.
If the boss's HP is reduced by one-thirds, it will return back to the air and summon three statues. These statues have different attributes compared to the initial statues.
If the boss's HP is reduced to below 40%, it will return back to the air and summon a large statue.
If the large statue is knocked out, the boss will use Grim Transcendence, Maeigaon, God's Hand, Grim Transcendence, Marakunda, Heat Riser and Concentrate within the same turn. On the next turn, it will use Megidolaon.
During phase 1 Hanged Man uses Maeigaon on its first turn, Herculean Strike on its second turn, Megido on its 3rd turn, and Gigantic Fist with a random target on its 4th turn. This pattern is repeated on subsequent turns.
After getting a "One More" it will use Dekaja or Dekunda if either are applicable (prioritizing Dekunda). If neither are applicable it will use Mudo on a target that is not the protagonist.
