Profile[]
The Akarana Corridor is a strange expanse described as a tunnel binding space and time, which can be used to traverse between different timelines. Several spirits gather in the Corridor: Time Tourists, passing spirits out to see different timelines, or Lost Souls, spirits lost to the immensity of Akarana and have no way of returning to their point of origin. Several spirits remark that the year Raidou comes from, Taisho 20, never actually came to pass in timelines they originated, as a reference to real-world history.
It is implied that at some point in the futures of certain timelines, regular travel by means of the Corridor will be possible, but will be strictly regulated so all visitors become spirits, both to protect established status quo and the visitors themselves, though the Art of Spirit Cast-Away used by Raidou is an alternate option to enter the Corridor, allowing him to retain his corporeal shape.
The Corridor is buffeted by debris from many realities, with items, demons and astral bodies being a constant nuisance to the visitors. Many powerful demons also make their homes in the Corridor's floors.
Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers[]
When the protagonists meet Raido Kuzunoha XIV, he will mention he traveled through the Corridor to their era, describing himself as a Time Tourist. When dual-summoning the Soulless God Oumagatsu, Raidou Kuzunoha XIV will mention both he and Raido somehow acquired it in the Corridor.
Raidou Kuzunoha Vs. The Soulless Army[]
Raidou Kuzunoha XIV was first cast into the Corridor by Rasputin after destroying Mishaguji at Waden One. Expelled from the universe, he ended up falling to the parallel world of Raido Kuzunoha XIV, where he was forced to gather the pieces of the sacred Amatsu Kanagi in order to return to his homeworld through the Art of Spirit Cast-Away as cast by his double.
Rasputin claims he has been sent to this world by the Center of Tokyo Millennium, in order to investigate an unknown factor which left their timeline (the events of Shin Megami Tensei and Shin Megami Tensei II) into the current timeline of Taisho 20. Rasputin would, however, abandon his mission in favor of living his own life in this world.
After the destruction of Tai-Itsu, Raidou was led there again by the voice of Gouto-Douji, who instructed him to follow the mysterious spirit possessing Kaya Daidouji. This spirit turns out to be the anomaly Rasputin is tasked to investigate, leaving through the Akarana Corridor in his desire for a new future. He used Kaya and other Daidouji family members as anchors to the current timeline.
The Corridor has several machines called Hourglasses, which can be used to view details from different timelines and to create dimensional walls. Upon reaching to destroy them, Raidou will be forced to relive past battles. While navigating the Akarana Corridor, a majority of the items present can only be revealed using a demon with the Inspect skill. This skill can also uncover dimensional rifts to rooms containing more items and additional Dragon Caves.
In the last steps of the Corridor, the future Raidou will admit to the pointlessness of his actions, stating he has changed nothing and his dream of a new world is no more, and he can't even return to his own timeline. Deciding to confront the Fourteenth as a form of revenge, he uses the Soulless God Oumagatsu as a final weapon, but is eventually defeated and is cast away into the vastness of Akarana.
Raidou Kuzunoha Vs. King Abaddon[]
Raidou revisits the Corridor after saving his dimensional counterpart, Raido Kuzunoha the XIV, from the demon lord Mara. It is revealed Raido goes to the Corridor for practice, confirming the Corridor can indeed be used as a nexus to connect normally separate timelines.
In the case file "A Critical Request", Asura travels here to leave for the future, in order to lead the forces of Chaos against the forces of Law, confirming the Corridor can be used to travel into the future state of a timeline, rather than just to another timeline.
On New Game Plus should Raidou have gone Chaos on a previous playthrough, the case file "By the Coast of Time..." has Louis Cyphre face Raidou for the third and final time here, giving him access to the parts of the Akarana Corridor not accessible prior to this quest. Raidou battles Louis in the form of Lucifer on the same floor where he once faced Raidou Kuzunoha the XL and the Soulless God.

Trivia[]
- Akarana is the Avestan (ancient Persian religious language) word for "boundless," "infinite" or "without end."
- Being a space caught among times and realities, there are several allusions to characters and events from previous Shin Megami Tensei games, namely Shin Megami Tensei and Shin Megami Tensei II.
- The various time tourists in the Corridor speak using words from Nadsat, a conlang invented by author Anthony Burgess for use in his novel A Clockwork Orange, as a shorthand to help hint at a future different from Raidou's own.
