Yeah, chances for getting a successful escape are ridiculously low, and combined with the high encounter rate you can get tired pretty fast. In my case after a while I just kinda accepted it and went along with every battle the game threw at me. But if you're really annoyed by it, you should try to play the game just once in a while so you don't get burned out.
And I'm pretty sure I'm still at the beginning. I'm in the part were I'm sent to another dimension...I guess. But the issue now are the toilet demons which take me down easily. And as stated before, it's hard to escape
I see. Yep, you're still pretty much at the beginning if my memory serves right. I know this might sound obvious, but in order to make the battles less of a chore you should grind levels fighting the enemies that you can defeat right now, and avoid escaping battles as much as possible. In this game and other SMT titles if you start escaping from battles too frequently, you'll arrive a point where enemies are too strong for you to handle.
You're welcome, I hope that in the end you can enjoy playing it! I'd also recommend reading the manga if you haven't already. It not a 1:1 adaptation, but it gives more depth to some of the characters and it actually made me more interested in them to keep playing the game.
